Welcome to Twin Maple Farms. We are a
family run beef operation breeding purebred Shorthorn
cattle. Our first Shorthorns were purchased in 1972 and we
have been raising them continuously
ever since.
We have done our share of crossbreeding, mostly while our children
were growing up, with the
aim of producing show steers for their 4-H projects. We were able
to produce the Champion
market steer and Reserve Champion market steer at the Nova Scotia
4-H Pro Show on three
different occasions. Two of these steers were straight Shorthorns.
We've found that our
Shorthorns can compete right at the top with the crossbred steers.
Quite frankly, we don't think
you can find a better female than the Shorthorn. Our steers at the
Maritime Beef Value Discovery
Project (2006-2007) all graded AAA with an average carcass weight
of 765 lbs. and an average
Lean Meat Yield of 58%. Results here. We
believe Shorthorns excel in multiple traits and with that in mind, we
select our females for
temperment, fertility, structural strength, mothering ability, as
well as growth and carcass traits.
We believe in maintaining strong cow
families that do more than just produce a calf every year.
Please stop by our site often as we'll do our best to keep it
updated with current information.
Thanks to the following for purchasing our heifer
calves (all daughters of Muridale Grecko)
